The Heart of Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce invites local businesses and the community to celebrate the opening of East Grand Avenue.
While phase two construction is still underway, the Chamber and City of Wisconsin Rapids want to recognize local businesses that have been impacted by the construction.
Please join us on Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 11 am to 1 pm at St John Evangelist Church parking lot located at 320 Oak Street, Wisconsin Rapids for a ribbon-cutting and lunch! Promptly at 11 am will be a ribbon-cutting featuring speakers such as Senator Patrick Testin, Mayor Zach Vruwink, and others.
After the ribbon-cutting guests are encouraged to network with businesses. Lunch will be available for purchase from food vendors Chat-R-Box and EveryThang Tacos. Local businesses participating in the event are as follows:
- Alan A. Panek Law Office, S.C.
- Bow Wow Meow LLC
- Creative Design
- Dairy Queen
- Hotel Mead & Conference Center
- Incourage
- McMillan Memorial Library
- Pearl Engineering
- Solarus
- Stoiber Chiropractic
- Taco Johns
- WoodTrust Bank
Third Street and Lincoln Street / E Jackson Street are now open to cross-traffic. Stage 1 of the construction process is anticipated to be open soon. The City had been working on plans to revitalize the downtown since 2009, and work started with the West Grand Avenue reconstruction project in 2011 and reconstruction of the 8th Street South and East Grand Avenue intersection in 2017.
Funding became available through the State Transportation Program to fund the reconstruction of East Grand Avenue in 2015 and construction plans have been in development since that time. The work will include new pavement, sidewalk, curb & gutters, streetscape, benches, bike lanes, landscaping, and underground utilities.
