Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids celebrated the “special delivery” of its new birthplace on January 31. The grand opening for the Aspirus Riverview Family Birthplace included self-guided tours, teddy bears and light refreshments. News mothers and moms-to-be untied a ribbon of baby blankets in lieu of a traditional ribbon cutting.
The new birthplace features 425-square-foot hotel-style suites with spa-inspired restrooms equipped with walk-in showers and whirlpool tubs. Each suite has two large flat-screen TVs, a comfortable queen-sized sleeper sofa, a mini fridge, dimmable lights, and free Wi-Fi. Rooms and hallways feature beautiful and soothing nature themes from around Wisconsin. The birthplace also includes a dedicated operating suite for c-section deliveries, a classroom and lactation consultation rooms.
“The amenities and thoughtful touches will make giving birth at Aspirus Riverview Family Birthplace an experience unlike anywhere else,” said Todd Burch, Aspirus Riverview CEO. “We listened to the ideas of mothers, fathers, mothers-to-be and fathers-to-be to create a unique center, offering a comfortable, calming environment where mothers can give birth in a soothing setting with their loved ones and family around them.”
Also participating in the ceremony were David Stark, Chair of the Aspirus Riverview Board of Directors, Wisconsin Rapids Mayor Zach Vruwink, and Dave Voss, President of Miron Construction - the project’s general contractor.
“For years – maybe decades – to come, this will be a special place for the families of our community,” said Stark. “It will be where parents finally get to hold their newborns, where siblings, grandparents and other loved ones meet the precious little ones they’ve been waiting for, where first photos are taken and first diapers are changed. Our objective was to raise the standard for the birthing experience – to make the wonder of childbirth even more wonderful. I’d say we ‘delivered’ on that goal.”
The new birthplace officially opens on February 14 and is located on the third floor of Aspirus Riverview Tower on the west end of the hospital campus. Babies will continue to be delivered in the current Aspirus Riverview Family Birthplace until the new birthplace opens. 472 babies were born at Aspirus Riverview Family Birthplace in 2018.
