Chamber successfully connects Job Seekers In-person and Virtually, with over 80 Employers at Employment and Resource Fair.

September 15, 2020, Wisconsin Rapids, WI – The Heart of Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry held an Employment and Resources Fair earlier this month. The Fair featured over 80 employers, hiring over 1,000 positions, most of which were located within 60 miles of the Wisconsin Rapids area.

In addition to hiring opportunities, over 20 resource providers attended the Fair to provide job seekers with information on financial planning, continuing education opportunities, career training, wellness, and economic resources. Resource providers included: Mid-State Technical College, University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, Lakeland University, Wood County, United Way of South Wood and Adams Counties, among others.

In preparation for the Fair, the Heart of Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce partnered with Mid-State Technical College and Marshfield Clinic Health Systems to host a video mini-series to promote career readiness. Topic included job searching, resume building, interviewing, social media tools and mental health and wellness.

“The Employment and Resources Fair and video mini-series was very beneficial for the job seekers who participated” stated Vice President, Krista Coon. “We want job seekers to know that our community and the Chamber is here to support them during this time of transition.”

After the recent announcements of Verso Corporation idling the local Mill and Ho-Chunk Gaming Nekoosa issuing permanent layoffs the Chamber, with support from Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Wisconsin Rapids Taskforce and many other organizations are spearheading efforts to continue supporting job seekers now and into the future.

“Area employers are hiring in many different industries with family sustaining wages and benefits. It is our hope that job seekers will find new careers within the Wisconsin Rapids area and continue to call this community home,” commented Angel Whitehead, President.

For those unable to participate in the live Employment and Resource Fair, the Chamber has created a webpage featuring a video of each employer who attended the Fair, their open positions, how to apply and contact information. The video mini-series is also available to view on the webpage. To view these resources please visit: http://www.wisconsinrapidschamber.com/job-resources.

Thank you to the sponsors who supported the Employment and Resource Fair and to Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools for hosting the Fair at the former East Junior High School. Special thanks to the employers, resource providers and job seekers who attended the Fair. The contributions and active participation in the Employment and Resource Fair is truly invaluable to the continued success of our community.
