City to celebrate completion of Henry Demitz Park project with ribbon cutting, Grand Re-OpeningOctober 17, 2019
(Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) – Construction has completed for improvements to Henry Demitz Park, and in celebration, city staff will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the occasion on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 11:30 a.m. at Demitz Park.
This also marks the completion of Phase I of the East Riverbank Project. These improvements include a new kayak/canoe launch, ADA-accessible accommodations, renewed fishing pier, recreational trail and under-expressway walk, parking lot, outdoor fitness equipment, outdoor grills, and a new shade structure.
The project was guided by a number of helping hands, including Taewook Cha ofSupermass Studios, MSA Professional Services and the Wisconsin DNR, which contributed $675,000 from the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Fund.
As a part of the celebration, Cha will give a designer-led tour of the park. In addition, fitness station and kayak/canoe demonstrations will be given, and Mayor Vruwink will be grilling and serving refreshments for those in attendance, while supplies last. A ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Wisconsin Rapids Chamber of Commerce has been scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
“The Wisconsin River is the most significant natural asset in our City and we’re capitalizing on it," said Mayor Zach Vruwink. "We’re proud to celebrate the completion of the East Riverbank project and the many new amenities and features for the public to enjoy. From riverbank stabilization to ADA accessible accommodations and fitness stations, our riverbank spaces are more exciting than ever!”
The project is just one of many upgrades the area has seen for the ongoing Riverfront Development project. Park benches and amenities can still be sponsored by calling the Wisconsin Rapids Parks Department at 715-421-8240. For event information, please contact the Mayor’s Office at 715-421-8216.
