WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI – Thanks to 516 volunteers, 80 yards were raked during United Way of South Wood & Adams Counties Day of Caring on Saturday, October 26th!  This annual event matches teams of volunteers to local elderly and disabled residents who need help with their yards before winter.

“I am so thankful for the record number of volunteers we had raking this year! The great weather helped us rake 80 yards.” said Amy Fluno, Day of Caring Coordinator for United Way of South Wood & Adams Counties “Thanks again to all who helped!”

One of the volunteers from Saturday’s event said, “One woman choked up a bit while thanking us as we finished.  My oldest daughter later asked why and it really made a positive impact on her when we told her because the woman was grateful for our help.  This is a great way to make a connection with someone we don’t know in our community.”

During Day of Caring, a personal essentials drive was also held for Acorn Apartments (housing for disabled individuals).  Many of these residents also live on fixed incomes so donations are very helpful.
