Registration now open for Mid-State’s June 12 College Camp

Offers safari-themed hands-on career exploration for grades 6-8

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Mid-State Technical College is hosting its annual College Camp for central Wisconsin students who will be entering grades 6 through 8 this fall. Students interested in actively exploring careers through education are encouraged to attend the day-long, safari-themed event scheduled for June 12, 2019, on Mid-State’s Wisconsin Rapids Campus (500 32nd St. North).

Each attendee participates in four career exploration sessions of their choice. Sessions offered this year include Accounting, Business Management, Campus Scavenger Hunt, Construction Trades, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice-Studies, Diesel & Heavy Equipment Technician, EMT-Paramedic, Hospitality Management, IT Network Specialist, IT Security Specialist, Nursing, The MIKE mobile lab (advanced manufacturing), Urban Forestry Technician and Welding.

The deadline for registration is Friday, May 17. There is a $40 registration fee that covers the event, including all three sessions, snacks, lunch, camp gifts and bus transportation. Participates are encouraged to register early as sessions are first come, first served. Check-in is from 8:30 to 9 a.m., and the camp concludes at 4:30 p.m. that afternoon. Bus transportation is provided to and from specific locations in Adams-Friendship, Auburndale, Marshfield, Nekoosa, Pittsville, Plover, Port Edwards and Stevens Point.

Additional information, including the bus schedule and registration for College Camp is available at mstc.edu/camp. Any questions should be directed to Morgan Anderson at 715-389-7052.

A group of College Camp guests learn about advanced manufacturing processes in the MIKE, Mid-State’s mobile manufacturing lab. The MIKE lets participants use a computer to design a product, create code to operate an automated machine, vacuum form their own design into a mold and reverse engineer a product using a 3D laser scanner. The workshop is just one of the options available in this summer’s College Camp on June 12.
