• Mid-State instructor receives Spirit of WHIMA Award

Julie Larsen, Mid-State Technical College instructor and program director of the Health Information Management program, was presented the Spirit of Wisconsin Health Information Management Association (WHIMA) Award on Wednesday, May 17, in the Wisconsin Dells.

The Spirit of WHIMA Award identifies and honors individuals who work behind the scenes to help coordinate, support or accomplish projects. Their hardworking efforts are key to a project’s success.

“I am immensely grateful to WHIMA for honoring me with the Spirit Award,” said Julie Larsen. “This recognition is significant to me as it acknowledges my commitment to giving back to the health information and medical coder community. Throughout my career, countless professionals have generously shared their know-how with me, shaping my growth in this industry. As a result, it has become my mission to contribute and support others in return.”

“One of the most rewarding aspects of my journey is the opportunity to share my knowledge and expertise with my Health Information Management and Medical Coder students at Mid-State,” Larsen added. “Witnessing their enthusiasm and empowering them with the insight and skills required to excel in their chosen path is a genuine privilege. I firmly believe in the power of education, collaboration and continuous improvement, and I am honored to be a part of this remarkable field.”

"The Spirit of WHIMA Award reflects how Julie's peers in the industry see her as a leader,” said Dr. Colleen Kane, dean of the School of Health and the School of Protective & Human Services. “Julie is an advocate for process improvement within Mid-State and among the Health Information Management community."

WHIMA and the professionals they serve work to ensure that tomorrow’s healthcare will be even more connected, more accurate, more innovative and more extraordinary than ever before. Learn more about WHIMA at whima.org.
