Course description:
An introductory class to introduce participants to the wonderful world of welding. If you are interested in learning the basics of gas-metal arc welding (GMAW/MIG) and metal fabrication, this is the class for you! Topics covered will include safety principles, welding machine operation and introductory concepts of metallurgy. Students will gain confidence in performing basic surface and joint welding techniques in both flat and horizontal positions while fabricating special projects they may use in their homes and gardens. There may be opportunities to explore oxy-acetylene and GTAW/TIG welding techniques. Some practice projects will be provided for technique practice and participants will have opportunities to complete personal projects.
The goal of this class is to provide a safe and fun environment for adults interested in learning more about welding for both repair and creative projects as well as to provide an opportunity for parents to explore in-demand career options with their young teen. Youths and adults ages 16-years-old and older are welcome as independent participants, youths ages 12 to 15-years-old are invited to participate with a parent as their partner. For youth and parent teams of two, only one registration fee is due, however, materials for only one of each practice project will be provided with each paid registration. Safety equipment and workbook will be provided, but providing your own pair of safety glasses is recommended. Total fee includes workbook, practice projects and use of safety equipment.
To register:
Phone – Complete and submit the online registration form. Then call the main number at 888.575.MSTC and state that you have just submitted your registration for a class and would like to pay by credit card. Provide your credit card information, along with the class number and fee amount for the class. (Visa, MasterCard, and Discover accepted.)
Mail – Complete and print the online registration form, and mail it along with your check for payment to the campus office at any Mid-State location. (This payment option is described within the form, in section 5).
In person – Complete and print the online registration form, and bring it with your payment to the Mid-State campus office nearest you.
